Technology is making farming easier in some respects. It is also giving producers access to more data. This data helps them make decisions on any possible changes in their production. Now, a technology meant to measure the health and activity of humans is being adapted to help dairy producers. You guessed it. The cows are wearing Fitbits.

Alltech?s Jeffery Bewley talks about the benefits of wearable technology for cows. It isn?t just about making sure they get 10,000 steps in each day.

Not only are wearable technologies being adapted to animal agriculture, but cameras much like the ones found in the popular XBOX gaming consoles may soon be used to monitor body conditions of cattle and other factors.

All this data coming in will need to be properly managed. Bewley says this information can give dairy producers a competitive edge in the marketplace.

More and more consumers want more information about their food, and dairy farmers are working hard to provide that information.
