As farmers keep producing crops year after year, we have become more aware of the need to take better care of the soil. Soil health has come to the forefront across the country and through all commodities. The first soil health summit was held in St. Louis this week. Kevin Ross is the Vice President of the National Corn Growers Association. Ross says it was very beneficial to get everyone at the table.

Representatives of several environmental groups were also on hand. These groups do not always find areas of agreement with agriculture. However, Ross says this is a very beneficial way to have these groups meet and find an understanding of one another.

So far, the Soil Health Partnership has found promising data coming back from their field testing. Ross says this is something to build on.

More work still needs to be done. Hopefully, this conference will be the first of many meetings. Having agriculture and environmental groups working together and understanding each other is far more beneficial for everyone going forward.
