Waterhemp is the most widespread herbicide resistant weed in Iowa. It stands to reason that nearly every agriculture company?s crop protection division spends a lot of time and resources in combating this prevalent weed. However, Blake Miller an agronomic service representative at Syngenta says that you need to have a well-rounded soybean protection plan to also be able to deal with large seeded broadleaf weeds.

Miller says that an herbicide such as Tendovo? takes a lot of research and development time in order to create a multi-faceted defense.

There has been a trend in the last few years in which farmers have tried to plant their soybeans earlier than traditional planting target dates. Miller says this trend has continued to expand.

He explains that if farmers are planting soybeans earlier, ag companies will need to respond by assisting growers with the earlier planting time. Farmers also need to be mindful of the weather forecast for the days immediately following planting.

That was Blake Miller an agronomic service representative at Syngenta who spoke with the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network at Commodity Classic in Orlando Florida.
