With profit margins being as tight as they are, the affordability of renting land is crucial. However, landowners want to make sure they are getting the rates they deserve for their land. Iowa State University Extension is hosting educational meetings for landowners around the state.

Steve Johnson of Iowa State Extension hosted a meeting in Adel on Monday morning to educate crop landowners. Johnson encourages landowners to attend ahead of the September first notification deadline.

With many landowners not involved in agriculture, Johnson says it is essential these owners understand how the process works.

Johnson tells farmers and landowners they might want to reevaluate or renegotiate their lease agreements with a 5th straight year of tight margins and industry uncertainty.
