Farmers from across the country will travel to a new farmer conference in Bettendorf next Tuesday through Thursday.

The first ever Farmer 2 Farmer Conference begins Tuesday at the Quad City Waterfront Convention Center in Bettendorf next week.

The Farmers Business Network is hosting the conference. Charles Baron is VP of Products with Farmers Business Network. He said the conference is based on Moneyball thinking.

?The title of the conference is ?Bring Moneyball to Farming. How moneyball thinking can be brought into agriculture using cutting edge analytics. These are the same types of thinking and processes that have transformed professional sports even the military and how that now can be brought into farming. Through the use of analytics on precision data that farmers are gathering,? Baron said.

Baron said a lot of the leaders of the Moneyball movement from baseball will speak.

?Including Bill James the baseball historian who invented sabermetrics which led to the whole concept of Moneyball and Paul Depodesta who is one of the subjects of the book and movie ?Moneyball who brought Moneyball to the Oakland A?s and just got the Mets to the World Series this last year. He is coming to talk about that as well as dozens of the best farmers in America. They are going to talk about how they are using these kinds of strategies or data on the farm,? Baron said.

He said he is excited about the event.

?This is a great opportunity with no corporate sponsorship involved and to have a very unfiltered conversation where growers can talk to each other directly and raise the most important issues they are all facing,? Baron said.
