Thanksgiving 2021 is a chance for family and friends to get together for a meal. However, paying attention to how that feast affects the bottom line is also important. The Farm Bureau?s 36th annual survey shows that the average cost of this year?s classic Thanksgiving feast for 10 is $53.31. It still breaks down to less than $6 per person. It?s a $6.41 increase or a 14 percent increase from last year?s average of $46.90.
The centerpiece of most Thanksgiving tables is the turkey, which costs more than last year at $23.99 for a 16-pound bird. While that?s up 24 percent from last year, the Farm Bureau survey took place before many grocery stores had begun to feature their whole turkeys at lower prices in time for the holiday.
AFBF Senior Economist Veronica Nigh (NYE) says factors that caused the price increases include inflation pressure and interruptions to the U.S. supply chains. More consumers cooking at home also upped retail prices.
