Only 34 days separate us from the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

There are a lot of events to look forward to, old and new.

The 2019 Iowa State Fair (ISF) will draw attention to Fair Favorites. Mindy Williamson, ISF marketing director, says this year?s theme ties nicely to traditional favorites.

?The butter cow is our iconic item. That starts getting into shape a couple weeks before the fair and finishes at the fair. Sesame Street is going to be in the butter cooler this year. Maybe (you can) see Cookie Monster, Oscar and some of your (other) favorite characters made out of butter,? Williamson said.

You might find a new fair favorite while attending this year?s event. Williamson talks about new daytime entertainment.

?It?s not very common to sea lions in Iowa, but we have a sea lion show. Mutton busting has been popular in the past. This year we?re doing it all day, every day. There will be bleachers there if you just want to watch. And, alligator wrestling will be in our Kid?s Zone,? Williamson said.

Another new activity involves exercising alongside baby animals.

?Goat yoga was something we tried last year. We had the opportunity to do that here because we already had goats. We brought a yoga instructor in our Animal Learning Center, took new baby goats and did yoga with them. People loved it,? Williamson said. ?We are doing three events this year. They are ticketed events: You pay $20 and get a yoga mat for participating. That is on August 12th at 2 p.m., August 14th at 6 p.m. and August 17th at 10 p.m.?

The 2019 Iowa State Fair runs August 8th through August 18th. For more information, visit www.iowastatefair.org or download the Iowa State Fair App, which is available through the Apple Store and Google Play.
