The first-ever pig welfare symposium takes place in Des Moines today and Wednesday.

The symposium is hosted by the National Pork Board and takes place at the downtown Marriott.

?We will kick our symposium off with our keynote speaker Dr. Ed Pajor from the University of Calgary to talk about why welfare is important and why we are talking about it as an industry,? NPB director of animal welfare, Sherrie Webb says.

Webb says the symposium will also feature a live consumer panel to give attendees perspective on what the general consumer thinks about pig production and animal welfare.

If you are not able to attend the symposium, you may watch speakers here.
