Today technology is everywhere. One Canadian company wants to digitize your farm to help you make a profit.

Wade Barnes is President and CEO of Farmers Edge. It?s a digital company focusing on variable rate technology.

?Simply just the ability for the farmer to manage their farm better from the data and information. It also goes even further where you can predict how much nitrogen needs in season and be able to address that. Move the farm versus variable rate application versus standard rate.?

Barnes says they?re working on just how using the tools benefits a grower.

?We have alerts setup where a grower might have a disease infestation. He?ll get an alert back to his phone telling him to spray. If he can get that done, it could save his field which is a ton of value.?

The biggest fear of farmers is about who owns the data.

?The grower owns the data. We sign a contract with the farmer and the data belongs to them. We just ask that we are able to aggregate that data,? Barnes says.

Barnes spoke to me to Farm Progress Show in Decatur, IL.
