Dicamba applicators must take mandatory training

An old herbicide has been reinvented, and applicators are required to take a short course before applying it throughout the 2018 growing season.

The product Dicamba has been utilized by Monsanto to bio-engineer soybeans to resist it and kill more weeds than other options.

Last year, growers and professional applicators had a hard time managing the formulation that is supposed to be low volatility.

The problem: Dicamba is deadly to non-resistant crops. Some melons will react to 1/1500th of the application rate. Those non-resistant crops are valuable and courts have ruled against applicators who misapplied the herbicide.

The only option to keep Dicamba on the market and utilize the millions of dollars in development cost of resistant crops is to make Dicamba a restricted use product and retrain or sensitize applicators. An explanation of Monsanto?s program in the program below.
