September is National Preparedness Month. After the past few weeks, it is a good idea to really evaluate your disaster plan with your family and employees. Not only are you having to have a plan in place to protect your assets from Mother Nature, but you also have to worry about the unscrupulous people who will try to prey on you after a disaster.

Sean Voskuhl is with AARP. He says that having a natural disaster plan in place is essential. During the pandemic that is sweeping the globe, it becomes more important and more challenging.

With September being National Preparedness Month, Voskuhl says it is a good time to review your plans and make sure they are appropriate to the situations that you could face in your area. It also does not hurt to have plans in place for those extremely rare occasions, such as a corn belt hurricane.

The worst part of this is not the disasters themselves, but what can come after it. There are individuals and groups out there who just wait for a disaster to come through so they can swoop down and take from you anything Mother Nature could not get. Voskuhl talks about being prepared to protect yourself from a scammer.
