Dairy industry wants milk more narrowly defined

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is soon expected to enforce regulations that define milk as an animal product, not a plant-based food.

If you are not in the dairy business, this may seem trivial. But, defending an agricultural enterprise may mean keeping your customers or losing them to someone else that can utilize your promotion work to their advantage.

Almond milk, soy milk and other plant-based products have gained market share by their branding. The FDA will have to sort this out and possibly prohibit non-animal liquids from being called milk.
