The Creighton University Rural Mainstreet Index fell in August to a reading of 44, six points below growth neutral.

Dr. Ernie Goss regional economist and economics professor at Creighton University, says this has been a continuation of an economic downward trend.

An unexpected area of the rural economy that has seen a decline is farm equipment sales.

Farmers have shown that they are being patient and cautious in terms of spending with fuel prices, commodity prices, and interest rates all causing concern.

That’s Dr. Ernie Goss, Economics Professor at Creighton University.
