If the government re-opens and U.S. Department of Agriculture number crunchers can report back to work, they will collect information for the January 1 Cattle Inventory report.
The cow herd is viewed as the most significant number we will see. It may be higher, but not much higher. At a time of profitability in the cow-calf business, that shows significant restraint by producers.
The report is expected on January 31.
