This is the first of a series of special harvest weather forecasts with Hoosier Ag Today chief meteorologist Ryan Martin, and they will be featured each Friday through the harvest season and online at the Hoosier Ag Today website.
Harvest is going to get a boost in Indiana, according to Martin, from dry weather the next several days.
?Also helping the fact that temperatures are going to be above normal this weekend through the first part of next week,? he said. ?We could be looking at near record temperatures in parts of the state. So this is going to aid quick dry down and quick maturity of crops that are right on the edge.?
After that period though, temperatures will start to shift, and by Wednesday there is a chance of rain.
?We do see a fairly significant front moving across the Corn Belt this upcoming week,? Martin says. ?It puts down some moisture in the western Corn Belt probably Tuesday, but I also see this front falling apart as it moves across Indiana. So, the day to watch is next Wednesday. I?m expecting a few clouds, maybe some spits and sprinkles there, but in terms of significant precipitation I don?t expect much on Wednesday. The biggest change you will see in harvest conditions will be a significant drop in temperatures from well above normal down to near normal, maybe even a bit below. Temperatures will be the most dramatic change over the course of the next seven days.
