But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. -Galatians 5:22-23

selfcontrol

It is so easy for me to become frustrated, to say things without thinking, and to eat a dozen cookies in one sitting. Self- control is hard.

I think that sometimes we overlook the things that the Bible specifically talks about being.

A fruit of the Holy Spirit is having a control of yourself.

If there is one thing I want people to say about me at the end of my life is that I am Christ like. Being Christ like is a pure example of what it truly means to have self control.

Jesus continually showed controlled. When people hurled insults….he said nothing. When people doubted him….he spoke words of confidence. When he was around prostitutes….he was respectful. When people hated him….he loved them. Jesus was a man of control.

What is easy is not always best. Sometimes, it is necessary to do hard things. It is hard work to control yourself, your temper, your frustrations, your wants, your passions.

However, God calls us to do just that. He wants us to be free. If we always react and do the easy thing, we?re never really free.

Remember that self-control is a gift from the Holy Spirit, ask God for it. Receive it!

Prayer: “God, thank you for giving the gift of self control. Help it to be a fruit in my life that I exemplify daily. In your name I pray, Amen.”
