Not since 2008 have fuel prices been this high, and we have surpassed the records set fourteen years ago. The hit to the wallets of Americans is staggering, especially at a time when we are seeing high inflation on the costs for all our necessities, including food. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has jolted oil prices higher because of the amount of oil Russia produces. The Biden Administration has said that all options are on the table when it comes to securing our energy needs. They will look to any source to find a fuel supply. However, it doesn?t look like they are willing to look inside our own borders.
Iowa politicians from both sides of the aisle have partnered with colleagues across the Midwest to try and get President Biden to live up to his campaign commitment to biofuels. He has fallen very short of this, according to the biofuels industry and its supporters. Iowa First District Republican Congresswoman Ashley Hinson has recently called on the EPA to do something about it. She is calling on the agency to relax the Reid Vapor Pressure requirements to make it easier for the biofuels industry to answer the call for energy supplies. Congresswoman Hinson joined IARN to discuss her efforts. She says that the U.S. has no need to be dependent on Russia, Iran, or others to meet its energy demand.
Hinson says what is really frustrating for her and her colleagues from midwestern states on both sides of the aisle is the President?s lack of follow through on his commitment to biofuels. Hinson says the Administration?s obsession with electric vehicles is unhealthy and not grounded in consumer statistics.
Hinson says biofuels are an option that is available right now.
Hinson says now it is just a waiting game to get a response from the administration, but just like the President?s interest in getting oil from any country he can, whether they are friendly with the U.S. or not, Hinson says all options are on the table. She says the Iowa delegation is united.
