Iowa Congressman David Young began a multi-topic focused visit to China Monday with a meeting at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing with U.S. Ambassador to China, and former Iowa Governor, Terry Branstad.

The seven-day visit throughout the nation includes meetings with senior Chinese officials and international partners and will focus on U.S.-China relations, with an emphasis on our agricultural relationship and developments, North Korea, the South China Sea, energy and cybersecurity.

?The continued potential for growth in exports to China for Iowa?s products is of great importance to job and economic growth for the state,? Congressman Young said. ?The federal government must work to foster ? and not hider ? this important relationship for Iowa.?

The trip, cleared by the bipartisan U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ethics, is not taxpayer funded. It was organized and paid for by The National Committee on United States-China Relations, a 51-year-old nonprofit educational organization that encourages understanding of China and the United States between citizens of both countries.

The bi-partisan delegation includes Congressman Young, Congressman Ray LaHood from Illinois, Congressman Rick Larsen from Washington State, Congressman Sean Maloney from New York, Congressman Roger Marshall of Kansas and Congressman Gregorio Kilili Camacho Sablan of the Northern Mariana Islands.
