Residents of northern Par? state continue to protest along federal road BR-163, a road often used for the transportation of goods. The protests follow Brazilian President Michel Temer?s decision to veto legislation, reducing protection for an area of national forest in the region.

As protests continue, the transportation of trucks carrying corn and soybeans from center-west farms is hindered. Trucks hauling goods attempt to travel to the trans-shipment hub in Miritituba, where goods will then be transferred to barges for shipments to Santar?m and Barcarena. Anec, a cereals exporting group, told Reuters the situation could impact its projections for corn exports.

?Everyday, they stage a blockade at some point of the highway. When we get there, they move to another point,? said Ana Rabelo, a spokeswoman for PRF in Par? said.

Rabelo also told Reuters the protestors continue to plan new blockades one week ahead, each day at a different point in the BR-163.
