Chinese pork supply plummets

China is the world?s largest pork producer, by far. They grow about 54-percent of the world?s pork supply, and eat all of it.

However, the rampaging African Swine Fever (ASF) virus, which has ravaged the country over the past six months, has taken a great deal of the pork supply away, in death loss, reduced reproduction and early selling by farmers who sold their animals fearing they would be infected.

An economist with INTL FCStone lays out the bare facts on the production loss and speculates on what happens next.
