Cow/calf producers are making money right now. Packers are making money, but feedlots are beginning to lose money as numbers grow and prices decline. The worldwide demand for beef is large, but pork and poultry are strong competition.
An industry expert says expansion of the United States cattle herd is moderating, but producers will have to be aware of costs to remain profitable.
