Last week President Trump enacted tariffs on steel and aluminum from Canada, Mexico and the European Union (EU). Coupled with the tough NAFTA negotiations, Canada is not sure what to expect from one of their biggest trading partners.

Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made comments on NBC’s Meet the Press to give the Canadian perspective on what has happened these past weeks and months. Trudeau gave his reaction to the last week’s imposition of tariffs by President Trump.

Trudeau says Canada’s being labeled a “Security Threat” by the U.S. is insulting.

Trudeau talks about the NAFTA negotiations and says if an American proposed “sunset clause”, meaning the trade deal ends after 5 years, is included, there is no point in reaching an agreement.

If anything has been for certain in the trade climate, it is the fact nothing has been certain in this trade climate.
