Can USMCA push through impeachment politics?

The political climate in Washington has gotten even more mired if it is at all possible. With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announcing plans to try and impeach President Trump, there are concerns being raised about whether other legislative business can be finished, including the United States ? Mexico ? Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The discussion over the USMCA was already a divided debate in the Democrat-controlled House. Lawmakers were wanting changes over environment, labor and enforcement issues. There have been talks going on between House Democrats and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer. Congressman Ron Kind (D-WI 3rd) says talks on USMCA are still moving forward despite the threat of impeachment.

Representative Henry Cuellar (D-TX 28th) says he hopes to see the agreement voted on in Congress by either November or December, more than a full year after it was signed by the leaders of the three countries. This would also be after Canada holds their National elections, in which the USMCA may play a huge roll in the outcome.

American Farm Bureau Executive Director Dale Moore says no matter what distractions there are on Capitol Hill, they are going to be working to get the deal done.

Moore says not getting the deal done could affect the 2020 elections. He adds getting this deal done is good for both sides of the aisle.

Congressman Ron Kind added he felt the deal will cross the finish line this fall, no matter what else is happening in the Congress.
