Midwest farmers can now access new germplasm for corn and soybeans through their local agricultural retailer.

Corteva Agriscience earlier this year launched a new retail brand, Brevant seeds. Kent Bennis, area business development manager with Brevant Seeds, further speaks to the brand, which offers “a new, agile way of doing business with Corteva Agriscience.”

“We bring new germplasm, for corn and soybeans, to the retail channel that growers can source from their local retailer across the Midwest and Eastern Corn Belt,” Bennis says. “We have hybrids and varieties basically across any maturity zone, specifically bred and designed for these local geographies.”

Bennis makes note of “variable conditions across the Midwest,” which allowed some farmers to harvest a crop this fall and prevented others from doing such. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, Brevant seeds was able to collect useful data from plots scattered across its territory.

Hybrid standouts include: 12CO1 and 04Z92, both AQUAMax hybrids. Brevant seeds looks forward to offering AQUAMax hybrids to farmers, which showed great stress tolerance against widespread drought conditions.

“We have AQUAMax hybrids in our lineup that are designed for droughty conditions. Those hybrids (were) shown well across Iowa. This summer, in particular, where we had nice yields – significantly better than standard hybrids – better stay green, and stalk quality,” Bennis says.

Farmers must take yield results into consideration, as they make seed decisions for the 2021 crop season, says Bennis. “Less than ideal” subsoil moisture conditions challenge growers to select hybrids with good root systems.

“We have good root scores on all of our hybrids, and we have Qrome as our new trait package for above- and below-ground insect protection. The combination of Qrome and AQUAMax is shown well in 2020 results. I anticipate growers wanting to look at those hybrids for the 2021 planting season,” Bennis says.
