(MATO GROSSO) – Soybean and first crop corn planting in Brazil is moving very fast.

In the latest South American weather and crop update on the Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network, Allendale commodity broker Greg McBride says Brazil is currently experiencing its second fastest soybean planting pace on record. Ag Rural is reporting that Brazil?s soybeans were 22% planted as of October 14th.

?Brazil and Argentina are ahead of the five-year average,? said McBride. ?That?s a good sign for us at this point. That is something we will have to watch here in the U.S., especially in Brazil, because we know that Brazil for 14 years in a row has increased their area for planting soybeans.?

Brazil?s first corn crop was reported 45% planted on October 14th. That compares to 44% planted at the same point last season.

McBride takes a look at the latest weather patterns in South America?s major crop areas.

?Over the past few weeks, we?ve seen good rains that have come into Brazil for their planting pace,? said McBride. ?That?s what they will continue to see over the next two weeks here. Argentina has not seen nearly as much rain, but they have been getting enough to keep pushing them through.?

Argentina has been turning dry due to La Nina beginning to take effect. Reports say Mato Grosso, Brazil is reported to be 45% planted, well ahead of its five-year average of 25%.
