Branstad, Northey to view conservation projects near Madrid on Thursday

Governor Terry Branstad and Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will visit a farm near Madrid on Thursday, May 4 to view practices that have been installed to protect water quality.

Branstad will also sign a proclamation recognizing April 30 ? May 7 as Iowa Soil and Water Conservation Week during the event.

The farm is within the Big Creek watershed and has four saturated buffers that were installed last fall.

A bioreactor and oxbow restoration is also scheduled be completed this year.

Iowa State University is leading a number of research projects on the farm.
