We have had so much focus on the challenges trade has been facing during COVID-19. It seems like there has been so little in the way of positive news coming out of this. However, on Friday we saw that glimmer of hope. After years of work, Mexico and the United States reached an agreement to allow access for U.S. bison exports to our southern neighbor.

Last fall, representatives of the bison industry traveled with U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue to Mexico City for a trade trip, where they continued to work on showcasing their product for Mexican officials. National Bison Association Executive Director Dave Carter talks about the work that got us to this point.

What has taken the most time is developing regulations and processes between Mexico and the USDA.

Access to Mexico is going to have great benefits for the bison industry in the U.S.

Carter says that the bison industry is ready to move forward in getting their products into Mexico.
