The beef industry continues to battle with itself.
A group known as R-CALF sued the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) two years ago and got an injunction against the Montana Beef Council. R-CALF argued the state has no right to direct those dollars and they must go to the National Beef Board, which may then approve and fund state activities. Last year, R-CALF was able to expand that injunction to 14 additional states.
Now, the incoming president of the National Cattlemen?s Beef Association (NCBA) says an upcoming trial on the matter will vindicate the beef checkoff program.
