There is an old phrase in business: You have got to know your customer. You are likely to be a baby boomer or perhaps a Generation X consumer, but the new consumers are Generation Y or millennials, called Generation Z.

The Beef and Pork Checkoffs have turned their promotional attention toward this buying group which is known as the most influential generation of customers, citizens and employees since the baby boomers were in their forties and fifties.

What do they want? What are their dislikes? What will cause them to consider eating meat and if so, what meat or meats will they consume?

Jason Dorsey is one of the most knowledgeable researchers on the work habits and attitudes of Millennials. This Austin, Texas based guru, on both Generations Y and Z, spoke at the Texas Cattle Feeders Association this past fall.

At the meeting, Radio Oklahoma Ag Network Farm Director Ron Hays talked with Jason about what makes Millennials and Gen Z?s tick, as well as how the beef industry can best portray beef as a great protein source to these consumers under the age of 40.
