Beef exports slip, domestic use strong

A bright spot in agriculture is the beef business. From large feedlots to individual livestock producers who sell feeder calves, or have fed their corn to big cattle all winter, the money is coming in.

A reason for the profitability is worldwide demand. Last year it hit record levels month after month. This year, data from January and February, it is down slightly. Domestic demand, however, looks great.

Since the beginning of the year, the beef industry has been able to chew through the reported beef export data of the first two months of 2019. Katelyn McCullock, director of the Livestock Marketing Information Center, recently discussed the numbers and how they compare to the performance of United States beef exports last year.
