Bayer celebrates EPA decision on dicamba products

Earlier this week the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) gave its approval to dicamba products for the next five years. Supporters of the decision say this will return certainty to farmers who needed to make their 2021 plans and wanted to know what tools were available to them. Not only does this ruling return certainty to the farmers, but it also returns it to the manufacturers of dicamba products.

A week ago, we heard from Bayer?s Alex Zenteno about the Xtendimax? system that Bayer had ready to go for the 2021 growing season. Of course, this was all contingent on the EPA?s final decision. Now that the path is cleared for the use of dicamba, Zenteno says it is all systems go for their Xtendimax? system.

There were some changes to the way dicamba will be used and regulated in the EPA?s recent decision. Zenteno says that the Xtendimax? system is ready for these changes. The first noted change is the need for a ?Volatility Reducing Agent.? Zenteno says that the new VaporGrip? technology from Bayer will meet that requirement. Also, Bayer has met the requirement of a simpler label that the EPA required to make it easier for producers to understand its restrictions. There will be restrictions for farmers to abide by as well, such as increased buffer zones.

Zenteno also praised the EPA for handing down the five-year registration of dicamba products. Both farmers and the industry were looking for peace of mind.
