ASTA Promotes Trade and Research Priorities

Nearly 70 members of the American Seed Trade Association were on Capitol Hill this week. President and CEO Andy LaVigne says the seed industry is working on many of the same issues that are important to production agriculture. That includes trade. “We’ve got to have solid transparency in our trade agreements and the current administration and Congress understand the importance of trade.” The research dollars available for land grant colleges and agricultural research have declined in recent years. “Even though the private sector is stepping up to make up for some of the resources lost in agricultural research, we still need that fundamental research from our land grant institutions.”
