Adverse conditions this year contributed to crop disease.

Corteva Agriscience shares how you can gain better control over disease in 2020.

Northern Corn Leaf Blight and Gray Leaf Spot this year were prevalent across the eastern and western Corn Belt. ?Both diseases are detrimental to yield,? says Nick Dame, U.S. product manager for fungicides. Dame offers simple tips for tackling both diseases in 2020.

?We recommend growers and retailers go out and scout fields, see what?s prevalent out in the field,? Dame said. ?If they?re experiencing disease, it?s probably too late. But there are products available that have curative properties, (s)o we?re able to treat and get the most yield potential out of your crops.?

?There?s a lot you can do to protect your crop when it comes to disease management,? adds Dame. He adds it starts with crop rotation.

?That?s one of the non-chemical measures you can look at,” Dame said. “You want to look at crop rotation, tillage practices and then if you must go to a fungicide, there?s foliar fungicides available.”

Dame says growers can also get ahead of the disease by using a foliar fungicide.

?There is a lot of data out there that suggests using a foliar fungicide to protect against disease. I would definitely suggest making decisions early and planing on using a fungicide to protect your crop?s yield potential next season,? Dame said.

Corteva Agriscience reports strong yield gains and return on investment following use of a foliar fungicide. The company offers two products in this space: Approach and Approach Prima. Additional information on these products can be found at www.corteva.us/approachprima.
