Iowa is respected and known around the world for its innovation and practices in agriculture. It is a point of pride for the state. So, it is always good news when an Iowa-based company can start building international distribution of its products to a global marketplace that is taking notice. Ankeny-Based PowerPollen is the latest of these companies.

You may be wondering just what PowerPollen is. Jason Cope is a co-founder and the COO of PowerPollen. He gives us a bird?s eye view of what the company is all about.

Their technology is changing the way pollen is gathered and may even replace the need for detasseling. PowerPollen is allowing for the removal and storage of pollen, so it can be applied at a more convenient time. This can protect the pollen from outside threats such as weather.

Cope talks about the results they are seeing by using this practice in corn. They are seeing yields increase a few percentage points.

The technology is being applied to not only corn plants but is also getting consideration in the wheat and rice arenas as well. Other countries are starting to see the value of the technology and want to apply it further for the main staple crops that feed the world. Earlier this month, PowerPollen was able to secure $13 million in funding to help accelerate this international adoption of their technology.
