An animal nutrition company breaks ground on a new feed mill.

The Kent Nutrient Group broke ground at Deluxe Feeds in Sheldon, Iowa Thursday. Dan Paca is General Manager of Deluxe Feeds in Sheldon. Paca said Deluxe Feeds is excited about the expansion.

?It?s really a testament to where we feel our place is in the food chain,? Paca said. ?We?re very appreciative of our owners. We?re very appreciative of the community for accepting us, to put the plant here. We?re very thankful and looking forward to the future.?

The new manufacturing facility, worth $37 million, will feature: a 50,000-square foot warehouse, five pellet mills and state-of-the-art packaging equipment and loadout facilities. Paca said the facility will help Deluxe Feeds better serve its customers.

?It?s going to give us the ability and capability to offer different forms to them (our producers). We have an economically-run mill that?s state-of-the-art, and by adding these other capabilities and forms of products to them is going to be able to enhance profitability to them as well. Then you look at the other Kent Nutrition Group dealers that are going to be pulling feed from Minnesota, most of the Dakotas, Iowa and Nebraska. With the size of the warehouse and the new equipment, we?re going to be able to serve them better than we currently are.?

The facility will also provide economic benefits, according to Paca.

?Since we made the announcement of the mill, a lot of corn and soybean producers have called us and thanked us because we?re going to be using more grain, which helps the grain market in the area,? Paca said. ?As far as livestock production, with all the regulations and rules, we raise the safest meats in the world right here, in the United States. The things we do as feed suppliers plays into the food chain.?

The Kent Nutrient Group and Deluxe Feeds hope to have the facility completed within 18 to 20 months.
