Agronomist Skeptical of Record Corn Crop In Iowa

by Ken Root & Ben Nuelle Agribusiness Matters 8-10-16

Ninety eight percent of Iowa’s corn has reached the silking stage which is 11 days ahead of normal. Sixty one percent has reached the dough stage which is five days ahead of last year and nine days ahead of the five year average. Corn is rated 83 percent good to excellent.
John Grandin, Senior Field Sales Agronomist for Growmark spoke with IABN’s Ken Rooton Tuesday Morning after scouting corn fields on Monday.  Grandin says the crop looks like a million bucks from the road but his examination of ears and populations showed a less than perfect crop.
