DYERSVILLE, Iowa – “The corn crop is at 100% of its potential right now,” according to Growmark Regional Agronomist Nate Pierce. “We’ve got problems coming with loss of nitrogen, plant diseases and weeds.”

Pierce outlines what he expects to be the biggest challenges to growing a good crop of corn or soybeans this year. He spoke with Ken Root about the current wet weather and the loss of nitrogen both up and down. He says this is perfect weather for plant diseases to spread and has reports of several problems already showing up. Finally, Pierce is concerned about controlling resistant weeds in wet fields.
