The current COVID-19 pandemic has definitely taken our attention off of topics that once dominated our conversations. However, that does not mean these other problems have gone away. While we have been strongly focused on the global pandemic, African Swine Fever (ASF) has continued to spread out its reach around the globe. The National Pork Board has not forgotten about the disease and is still working hard to keep it from America?s shores.

In the past few months, African Swine Fever has continued its spread in Asia and Eastern Europe. While the world has kept its focus on COVID-19, ASF spread into Greece and India. Dr. David Pyburn is the National Pork Board?s Senior Vice President of Science and Technology. He says that there has been increased spread in countries like China and Poland, but we may actually be seeing some good news concerning ASF in Greece. So far, they have been able to keep it well contained.

African Swine Fever has been identified in over 50 countries, thus far. However, it has yet to find its way to the western hemisphere. The Pork Checkoff continues to remain committed to keeping it that way.
