With yesterday?s signing of the Phase One China trade deal and Thursday’s passage of the United States ? Mexico ? Canada Agreement (USMCA) in the Senate, this has shaped up to be a big week for trade agreements. The ink is just drying on yesterday?s signing.

Audio: Full interview with Senator Joni Ernst

I talked with Senator only minutes after President Trump signed the Phase One Trade Agreement with China. The Senator was most excited about what this agreement will mean for Iowa farmers.

Ernst talked about what it was going to take to enforce the deal. This includes keeping tariffs in place a few more months to make sure the criteria for the additional Ag purchases are met.

The USMCA passed the Senate today. Senator Ernst was ready to get this trade deal onto the President?s Desk. She said farmers were continuing to ask her to get this trade deal passed as soon as possible.

The Senate had a very short window to get USMCA through and on to the President. Thursday afternoon the Impeachment trial of President Trump got underway.
