Since its founding, KILR has been owned by two different broadcast companies, Emmet Radio Corporation and Jacobson Broadcasting Company, Inc. Emmet Radio Corporation owned the station from March 29, 1968 to June 30, 1982. Jacobson Broadcasting Company, Inc. assumed ownership of the station beginning July 1, 1982.
The station recently added a FM Translator, at frequency 97.3, that simulcasts the AM-1070 signal.
Community Involvement: KILR serves the Estherville community in many ways. Each week, the station provides at least 45 hours of live and local coverage and produces 19 local newscasts and sportscasts. The station broadcasts over 140 local/area sports play-by-play broadcasts each year.
KILR has raised tens of thousands of dollars for local causes including: a sprinkler for the library, a K-9 dog for the police department, band uniforms and the Regional Wellness Center.
