Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey encouraged students across the state this month to submit artwork to be considered for inclusion in the ?From the Farm to You? calendar.

The calendars are distributed by the Department of Agriculture at the Iowa State Fair and include artwork that emphasizes the connection between the production of Iowa?s farmers and the products used by people every day.

The calendars are extremely popular and do a great job of showcasing Iowa’s agriculture.

The calendar include an extensive list of products that use Iowa commodities, such as adhesives, candles, hair conditioner, insulation, tooth paste, peanut butter and wine.

Northey said. ?I?m always impressed by the creativity and ability of these student artists as they help educate fairgoers about where their food comes from.?

Kindergarten through high school were part of the collection from Adel, Ames, Chariton, Kanawha, Maquoketa, Merrill, Monticello, and Scotch Grove.

Northey will recognize the students who are featured in the calendar at the state fair.

Students of all ages are invited to submit artwork. Pictures should be drawn using only black lines on plain white paper, 8.5 by 11 inches. Artwork should not be colored.

Students can send their work to the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship. Drawings must be received by May 1 to be considered.
