Is building demand the key to raising corn prices? Chip Bowling is National Corn Growers Association President.

Bowling says building demand for corn is important when you have too much of it sitting around.

?We?re going to have to build demand for our product. Products don?t sell themselves it?s up to us to move it. We?ve got 1.8-billion-bushel [of corn] leftover from last year and we?re planning on planting another big crop this year. Our national average tends to go up. So that means more of corn sitting around to be sold. National Corn Growers, we?re tasked with moving that product whether it?s through fuel, feed, or whatever we?re going to get it moved.

Bowling says increasing demand is the main one.

?The next one is consumer and customer trust. We?ve talked for years about how people like farmers but just not how we farm. You know we have issues concerning water quality and how we use nitrogen, phosphorus, and nutrients in our fields and how that runoff affects people downstream who don?t live on farms. So we?re committed to making sure we?re farming the right way.?

Chip Bowling, President of the National Corn Growers Association joined me at the 2016 Commodity Classic earlier this year.
