Senator Chuck Grassley says the recent floods in eastern Iowa is a good reminder why crop insurance is so important.

Grassley visited cities affected by recent flooding over the weekend.

?I saw debris and damage left by receding floodwaters, many homes under water, preparations for mitigation downstream and farmers surveying their flooded crops.?

For farmers, these floods are very destructive this close to harvest.

Grassley says the federal crop insurance program will be critical for farmers who have crops flooded this year.

?With grain prices as low as they have been in years, that program will provide some relief to producers who will be forced to take a complete loss on their flooded fields. It is important reminder heading to the farm bill of the critical role crop insurance plays in the farm safety net.?

Grassley says his office stands ready to help anyone affect by flooding.
