Germs & Jesus

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. -Psalm 139:8-10

Everywhere I look I see germs.

I would probably label myself a bit of a germaphobe.

I flush the toilet with my foot. I open doors with my sleeve, and I don’t share drinks.

Harold on the other hand, never see’s the potential of germs.

He has used our dish scrubber to clean a plank of wood, and a shoe with blood on it.

Last week, he cleaned our filthy vacuum cleaner filter, in the kitchen sink next to our clean dishes.

I was pretty furious. I grit my teeth and said, “Harold, just because you can’t see germs doesn’t mean they aren’t there.”

In that moment it hit me. As Christians, we need to hear this often.

Just because we don’t see Jesus, doesn’t mean He isn’t there.

There are times when he is unable to be seen, but He never goes away. He is always working, and fighting on our behalf.

Just like the presence of germs is very real, so is the presence of Jesus among us.

Prayer: God, thank you for being, and working in ways that I can’t always see. Help me to recognize that you never leave my side. In your name I pray, Amen.”
